The punch

What it is.

A ready-to-serve rum punch built on dark rum, in the Dominican style. Made in small batches in the United Kingdom.

A bottle of Gouté Balvin

What’s in it

Six things, and nothing you can’t pronounce.

  • Dark rum
  • Lime
  • Bitters
  • Cane sugar
  • Water
  • Nutmeg

Nothing you wouldn’t find in a kitchen in Portsmouth, Dominica.

Strength, allergen information and shelf life are confirmed for each batch and provided with every sample. If you have a specific allergy, ask before you taste.

Tasting notes

Warm, bright, and a little bitter, in that order.

Nose

Fresh nutmeg, lime zest, cane-sugar warmth.

Palate

Dark rum up front, lime cutting through, a low hum of bitters underneath.

Finish

Long and warm. The nutmeg is the last thing to leave.

How it’s made

Small batches, one recipe.

The recipe

Unchanged.

The same proportions it has always been made to, scaled carefully rather than reformulated. Dark rum leads; the lime and bitters keep it from becoming a sweet drink.

The batch

Tasted, then released.

Every batch is tasted before it goes out, and a sample is kept from each one. Colour and character can vary a little between batches, as they do with any natural product.

Pouring it

Cold, over ice, with nutmeg.
